Dynamic Content Generation of Virtual Worlds for Regional Communities in Australia

Supervisors: Dr Kathryn Merrick, Dr Michael Barlow, Dr Ning Gu (University of Newcastle, Australia)

Recently, our living environments have been expanding to include online
environments such as 3D virtual worlds. The phenomenon of virtual worlds
is especially important for countries like Australia where small
populations of people are spread across a large area. Virtual worlds
allow people to be connected without being physically co-located.
Despite the potential and growth in popularity of virtual worlds,
however, they currently exhibit limitations in their applications and
design methods.

The aim of this project is to develop and demonstrate a computational
framework for dynamic content generation. This framework will automate
and adapt the design of virtual worlds in response to the activities of
specific user groups. The focus of this project will be on regional
communities in Australia.

The successful applicant will be awarded a UNSW@ADFA Research Training
Scholarship with an annual tax-free stipend of $24,060. This scholarship
is for a period of 3 years and is subject to satisfactory progress
reviews. Applicants would be expected to be available to commence their
studies in Session 1, 2012.

Applicants with a first class honours degree or equivalent in Computer
Science or Design Computing are encouraged to apply. Applicants are
required to submit:

* A curriculum vitae
* Certified copies of academic transcripts
* A one page project proposal for a project within the boundaries of the description above
* Names and contact details of two referees

Applications without all of the above will not be considered. Complete
applications should be submitted by email to:
