1 April
TALKSHOP offers an opportunity for critical reflection on what has been accomplished in the sg2011 Workshops that occured the previous 4 days. Talkshop is an opportunity to share perspectives, open debates, pose questions, challenge orthodoxies, propose new ideas.

Talkshop will feature informal and open discussions between cluster participants, leading practitioners and emerging talents in digital design, offering inside perspectives on how the landscape of computational design is reshaping in response to burgeoning datasphere.

Talkshop will be followed by A Visit to the Workshop, a reception at CITA where visitors can view the workshop installations.

2 April
SYMPOSIUM  Following this year’s challenge, Building the Invisible, invited keynote speakers will showcase major projects around the globe that exemplify the way data informs design. The conference is a unique opportunity to hear insights into the challenges ahead for the discipline.

Interwoven throughout each day will be reports and highlights from each workshop cluster, giving those attending the conference the opportunity to view work created during the previous 4 days of intensive design and development from the sg2011 Workshops.

Symposium will be followed by an evening sg2011 Reception at the Danish Architectural Centre.

The SmartGeometry Conference will take place at: IT University of Copenhagen
Rued Langgaards Vej 7
DK-2300 Copenhagen S

Our host for SmartGeometry 2011, and the location of the sg2011 Workshops prior to the conference, is the Center for Information Technology and Architecture (CITA) at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts, in Copenhagen.

Vast streams of data offer a rich resource for designers. User data, energy calculations, embedded sensing, material and structural simulation allows design to be situated and responsive.

As digital designers our challenge is in harnessing the power of computation to assist us in informing our design process. Computers help us collect, manage and analyse the environment and inform us about an abundance of data. This year’s challenge, entitled Building the Invisible: Informing Digital Design with Real World Data, aims to explore how we harness these inputs in a meaningful way to help guide us in making better informed design decisions.

The entire SmartGeometry 2011 event, in combining a 4 day workshop comprising over 130 collaborators, and a 2 day conference consisting of the industry’s leading academics and design professionals, will serve as a creative cauldron for research, development, and critical debate.
