Academic Segment Manager – Postsecondary

Role/Purpose:

Responsible for the strategy, management and production of all Autodesk curricula into target postsecondary academic markets. Internal and external evangelist for curricula offerings. Develops, drives, and is accountable for strategy and plan for delivering assigned curricula to market.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

MARKET ANALYSIS:

Identifies targets and market opportunity and defines curricula requirements for the postsecondary academic segment.

Defines the organization’s unique ability to deliver value to the customer while differentiating itself from competitive curricula offerings.

Conducts market research and gathers industry expert opinions and quantitative market data for different market segments in close collaboration with Education management.

Works with key postsecondary schools to identify unsolved curricula needs in market that are both urgent and pervasive and that help drive adoption of Autodesk technology into postsecondary schools. Proposes innovative curricula that leverage the organization’s distinctive competence and technology offerings.

Assesses and investigates different technologies (both inside and outside the company) and considers how they might be applied to solve a given market problem or to add to a current curricula offering.

Identifies competitive curricula offerings in the market. Reviews their niche, approach, and success in the market. Assesses their strengths and weaknesses. Evaluates the presence and relative importance of key curricula features.

QUANTITATIVE ANALYSIS:

Segments the market by industry and geography and maps needs of target markets. Analyzes and determines market segments to proactively pursue. Ensures that the size of the targeted segments is large enough to support the Education strategy and goals.

Calculates effectiveness of curricula offering to guide further investment. Identifies strong and weak performers. Plans curricula retirement as appropriate.

Shares responsibility for conducting analysis with Education team in order to understand why schools did and did not utilize Autodesk curricula. Recommends changes to improve competitiveness of our curricula.

STRATEGIC PLANNING:

Performs an objective analysis of a potential market opportunity to provide a basis for investment, and later measure actual results versus planned. Creates a business plan for both new curricula and updates for existing curricula.

Identifies, creates and maintains relationships, leverages, and acts as main point of contact for key thought leaders in the postsecondary space, including influential faculty, industry specialists, academic partners and other third parties.

Serves as main internal point of contact for worldwide postsecondary curricula strategy. Builds strong partnerships with strategic Education teams, Education Marketing and Education Product Management.

Analyzes options (buy, build and partner) for the curricula to most effectively solve an identified market need. May also work with Education strategic adoption resources and divisional experts to identify market needs within a segment.

CURRICULA PLANNING:

Creates curricula that solve postsecondary market needs using innovation, distinctive competence and creativity. Looks at the curricula from the perspective of the market. Understands what the curriculum really does, how people use it, and what criteria they use to acquire or utilize it.

Creates the curricula roadmaps and manages the entire life cycle from concept through strategic planning to tactical activities. Manages decisions to continue or discontinue curricula offering based on effectiveness and utilization

Defines the go-to-market strategy for curricula with Education Marketing, providing curricula positioning for all markets and buyers, and target customers. Develops a list of specific needs that the curricula will solve for the market and specific requirements to address those needs to enable the development of effective marketing collateral, PR, advertising and marketing programs.

Produces roll-out objectives for execution by Education marketing.

Works with strategic Education teams to develop a scalable curricula adoption model, identifying the key steps of the adoption cycle, defining how to use the materials provided by the company, and focusing on how to integrate and utilize the curricula within postsecondary courses. Develops and owns utilization and effectiveness targets for the curricula in the postsecondary segment. Responsible for measurement of results. Works with senior sales staff to gather data, measure effectiveness, and determine utilization.

Monitors overall return on investment for curricula programs (not managing spend) to ensure that the programs achieve objectives.

DOCUMENT RESPONSIBILITY:

Responsible for creating and maintaining Postsecondary Market Requirement Documents (MRD), opportunity proposal, business case (Go/No Go), Curricula roadmap, Curricula Requirement Documents, and for contributing to the final Education marketing plan. Leads the cross functional review of the MRD to communicate the curricula specifications to curricula production team and to Marketing as a guide in developing marketing plans for the curricula.

KEY INTERFACES:

Key Customers, Target Customers, Industry Contacts, Press, Sales, Channel Partners, Product Marketing, Product Management and Strategic Education Teams.

Requirements:

Master’s degree required or PhD level with practical business experience and academic experience

15 years of progressively higher curriculum design experience at the college level

Extensive experience with course content in the architecture, manufacturing engineering, design engineering a plus.

Progressively responsible experience in education and technology.

Demonstrates ability to provide effective leadership.

Possesses knowledge and experience in working within the education marketplace.

Strong expertise in curriculum and innovative technologies and their application to e-learning environments.

Possesses pedagogical background in online learning.

Possesses strong abilities in strategic and innovative thinking processes.

Must be able to develop and implement operational processes that align to the overall vision of the organization.

Generate strategic and innovative discussion among colleague-members that can shape and guide policy and action.

Possesses strong analytical skills to drive decision-making or program idea generation.

Displays superior communications skills including written and verbal methods.

Proven experience in developing and executing projects and programs.

Demonstrates solid teamwork and interpersonal skills.
